focus: get it right!

If it's blurry, you're going to have to reshoot! Period. Here's how to feel confident you're doing it right.
Which buttons?
In order to check or control focus, you'll need to pay attention to two buttons on the side of the camera:
  • iA..MANU is a switch that turns the ENTIRE CAMERA in AUTO or MANUAL mode. If iA is on, you won't be able to control anything. So it's important to know if it's on before you start trying to troubleshoot.
  • FOCUS A/M/∞ is a button that toggles between AUTO and MANUAL FOCUS. It only works if the camera is in MANU (manual) mode. Verify which mode you're in.

As you toggle these options, you can check the LCD screen to verify if you're in auto focus (AF) or manual focus (MF) modes. Look for the small letters in the lower right-hand corner.

In manual focus mode, you can change the focus by turning the largest ring on the front of the camera. Turning this ring WON'T DO ANYTHING if you're in AUTO mode.
