THE CHOICE PROJECT
(optional A project)

ATTENTION: OFFICIAL COURSE MATERIALS HAVE MOVED TO CANVAS!
ONLY TECHNICAL GUIDES WILL BE UPDATED FOR 2018-2019

follow your passion

This is an OPTIONAL project, and it's designed for those students who want to stretch and apply all their learning for the semester. Additionally, if you want an A in this class, this project is a must-do for you.

Unlike The North Report project, the Choice Project doesn't demand that you necessarily work in the public interest, or that you think about serving the BVN community. In other words, do what you want (within the limits set by commonly understood standards of decency and respect). Nobody's going to ask you to justify your subject matter or approach. Want to make a silent film about a group of American Revolutionary freedom fighters trained by an exiled Chinese master of martial arts? Go for it. (I hope it turns out awesome!) Want to simply make something else for The North Report or the BVN Broadcast YouTube channel? Also go for it. (I hope it turns out awesome!)

What are you going to make? How about a...
  • music video
  • short documentary
  • experimental film
  • student profile
  • short film
  • next-level theme montage
  • super-rad performance video
  • extreme sports video (be careful!)
  • recipe demonstration
  • BVN club or activity promotional video
The constraints of this project are set primarily by you--how much time and interest you have in a particular sort of project. Whatever you do, the expectations are the same: show us all that you have learned something this semester about producing professional-looking video. Every single student is expected to adhere to the production practices we've discussed and learned all semester.

If you don't see something in the above list that accommodates your idea, that's okay! You're going to submit a proposal to me, and then I'll know, and your project will continue to be awesome.
