why learn after effects?
Reason #1: Make cool lower thirds!
Once you learn a few basic animation techniques in AE, you can easily make custom lower thirds. And in Premiere Pro CC, you can edit the text inside Premiere Pro! Amazing! Creating a lower third is a good way to warm up to using After Effects. |

Reason #2: Create custom animated shapes
The video at the right is a very basic animated array of shapes. It's just a technical exercise, so it's not designed to do anything except look cool, but you can use basic shapes and lines to make anything you want! Your imagination is the limit! |

Reason #3: Add animated elements!
This one is a video I made for a class. (The assignment required that I pick a concept and explain it in a minute-long video.) I did the edit in Premiere, but all the graphic elements I made in After Effects. The principle is to use signals (graphic elements or colors that highlight important elements in the frame) to increase the fidelity or clarity of your message. There are a couple of super-easy ways to add circles and other elements in After Effects! |

Basic projects to get started
Get the project files!
\\ 1. Download BVN_AE_.zip and unzip to your computer. 2. Inside the folder, you'll find an .aep file. That's the After Effects project. 3. Watch the video to the side to see what's in the .zip file. |
